Military Ideas - Whether you have family members headed to basic training, kids who love military men, or relatives who are in the military, these military party ideas are worth cheering up!

When my mother-in-law turned 60, we wanted to have a fun themed birthday party in her honor. He is the toughest person we all know. We always talk about how much of a trooper he is and how he deals with pain every day - nothing is going to slow him down or stop him from showing up for his family!

We decided to have a DIY military themed birthday party for him in recognition of what a soldier he is and how hard he will fight for the ones he loves 🙂 My oldest son and I had so much fun coming up with all the military birthday party ideas and I hope this helps give inspiration for the next event!

Two Military Ideas That Can Improve Your Life.

There are lots and lots of ways to put together a cute military party perfect for any little soldier or grown up who wants a fun military themed party idea. It would also be super cute for a military retirement party or a going away party for someone going to basic training.

We have a large family (18 of us) so we wanted to keep the event intimate and simple while also coming up with fun party ideas and decorations to make sure it was clearly a military themed party! It's a family party only, so no party invitation needed 😉

I bought most of the used items for this party from Hobby Lobby or Amazon and have linked them throughout the post to help make shopping for military party supplies easier during the party planning process!

As a very competitive family, we have a LOT of military boot camp activities planned, so we kept the decorations to a minimum, using some of my son's toy soldiers, tanks and other toy soldiers along with camo green balloons.

We asked everyone to dress in camouflage for the special day, and upon arrival I signaled to all the soldiers to "get ready!"

We have custom dog tags for every member of the family, along with military helmets, bandanas, and even camo face paint sticks to bring home the camo look.

My oldest had so much fun researching the different military ranks and giving each family member an official title on their military nameplate! If you are hosting a military birthday party for kids, you can also put military birthday party supplies in military themed bags or even plain paper bags like goodie bags that still fit the theme and are cheaper 😉

The party was to celebrate my mother-in-law's 60th birthday so we had to have large gold foil 6 and 0 balloons along with a mix of lots of camo latex balloons as well.

My mother-in-law has many "famous" quotes that she often quotes, so a great idea we came up with was to cut out a piece of paper to allow all the party guests to share their favorite "G-Mama quotes" . The Army has a slogan and G-Mama has a famous saying!

I used an old picture frame (which I've actually used for countless parties, events and baby showers at this point) and found some camouflage print tape to tie it together with some little green clothespins and while the other soldiers wrote their favorite quotes, they can add it to the display for guests of honor to read during the party. I also put all the pens and extra pieces of paper in the little green bucket. It was a huge success and a perfect idea to honor the parents of the family!

I wanted to buy a happy birthday banner and was excited to find a camouflage banner to put on our mantel. The set also comes with some additional military birthday party supplies that are perfect for adding themed accents to our home.

The fun part of party planning is seeing it all come together! We hung some hanging decorations from the kitchen lights, tied some camouflage balloons to the chairs, and even bought camouflage netting to use as a temporary tablecloth to complete the cafeteria atmosphere. The camouflage netting really adds a bit of flair and is a secret purchase that even surprised me the first time I saw it all on display!

Blursed Military Activities

We have planned some team competitions and party games and the first team to win each event will receive this cute little trophy at the end of the party! Of course every real military man knows that a real winner takes home the honor of winning and that means more than a trophy 😉

When it comes to any party, the best way to celebrate success is to have lots of PARTY FOOD! I love making themed food for my parties. It's always a fun activity to get creative with themed food names and come up with unique party favors that everyone will enjoy.

I avoid anything that is too difficult to make or time consuming to assemble. I'm not the type of mommy who likes to make cakes. I prefer to buy as much as I can ahead of time and spend pre-party time preparing rather than stressing myself out in the kitchen. Rice krispie pastries and themed cupcakes bought from the grocery store or local bakery are faster for me. 😉

I hosted this event with my sister-in-law and they brought out a lot of food from the party! We questioned my mother-in-law's favorite dishes and dishes and focused on dishes for the party and dessert table.

Best Military Gift Ideas

I like to keep the decorations minimal and let the party food speak for itself. I hung camouflage banners over our buffet table, as well as some decorations hanging from our lamps and some camouflage balloons on nearby chairs.

My son really enjoyed assembling his soldiers and toys as additional decorations for the dessert table.

At the filling station we have large ice buckets and a large selection of sodas and themed green cups. I found food labels and can print them for free from here! However, if they are no longer available, I also found these camo food labels at a very reasonable price that would also work well.

My go-to party food is usually a big pretzel stick dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with themed sprinkles! This party they serve as "Missles"

We didn't do a themed cake because my mother in law mentioned her favorite type of cake and we wanted her birthday cake for HIM! We added a cake topper to make sure no one forgets the important birthday we're celebrating 😉

Finally, we made camouflage cupcakes! In the past, for parties, I've used themed cupcake liners, but I've learned that it's better to focus on making the cupcake frosting and toppings look cuter than spending the time or money to have themed cupcake liners.

For this party, I ordered Sam's Club cupcakes in various shades of green frosting. I then added a themed sprinkle on top with a military guy! I had more camouflage ribbon that I placed on my cake stand to add the finishing touch to complete the military camouflage theme of the military birthday party!

When it comes to party themes, I get creative while keeping it fun and simple. I want guests to feel welcome and excited by the details, not overwhelmed by them. The kids are so excited about the masquerade birthday party for G-Mama and I wouldn't be surprised if we have a toy soldier birthday or military party for one of the kids soon!

Hi, I'm Emily! I'm obsessed with all things Disney and I can't turn down a good deal. I'm a big believer in always being open and transparent (total "oversharing" here!). Fatherhood is my personal passion and I strive to raise my children in God and for them to look back on their childhood with good and fun memories. I truly believe that life is a journey and I want to enjoy every moment of it!
